You procrastinate because of confusion

Watch this short video to learn how to overcome it.

  • So you've taken the quiz and the real reason you've been procrastinating is confusion. I'm gonna show you exactly why that's happening and how to overcome it today.

The only reason that we ever take any action is because of how we feel. Our feelings drive our actions. So naturally, if you're feeling confused, you're not gonna wanna take action – because how are you supposed to take action if you don’t know what to do, right? As soon as your brain tells you, I don't know what to do, your brain starts searching for reasons why that's true. It starts looking for evidence that you don't know what to do. But when you tell yourself, I know exactly what to do, your brain starts looking for evidence for that instead.

Test it right now. If your brain is telling you, I don't know what to do, tell it: “I know exactly what to do.” Watch how your brain will come up with answers. Your brain is really just trying to protect you and keep you safe, so it doesn't want you to do anything that could maybe embarrass you or put you in a dangerous situation.

There's this great quote by Brendon Burchard and he says, “You're not afraid to begin, you're embarrassed to be seen starting small.” I think this is really true when it comes to confusion because your brain is bringing you that confusion so you don't have to be seen starting small so that you don't have to be seen doing something that isn't really the perfect flawless execution that you have in your head.

Your brain is telling you, “I don't know what to do”, not because you don't know what to do, but because you don't know how to do it absolutely flawlessly, perfectly. And once you can let go of that, and you can be seen starting small, and you can allow yourself to know, “Hey, it's okay if I don't do it perfectly”, suddenly you know exactly what to do next.

And I want you to consider this: Knowing what to do isn’t a fact. It's just a decision that you make. You get to decide when you know what to do. Now, if you haven't made a decision, it's because your brain thinks that waiting to make a decision will give you more time to make the right decision, the most flawless decision.

But really all it's doing is giving you more time to procrastinate because any decision that you make about what to do is made in one exact moment. It's either made in this exact moment right now, or you procrastinate the decision for three weeks and you make it in that exact moment, in three weeks time. You cannot use that time to gather more information and make a better decision then. You might have different information, but you won't make a better decision.

A decision that is better, is a decision you decide was the best decision. Good decisions don't come from spending lots of time researching. Good decisions come from deciding that you make good decisions. And then you get to decide a new decision after that, and you get to decide that was a good decision too.

Guaranteed, you have got all the information you need to take the next step. So decide what is that next step. Not everything you need to do, just your one next step. All right, so keep practicing the thought, “I know exactly what my next step is”, and then go and execute it.
