Venezia Magica

IMG_1662.JPG

My photoshop skills aren’t strong enough to pretend I’m the only person who decided to visit Venice today, so please just imagine it’s only me and there’s not thousands of other annoying tourists trying to get the exact same shot, grazie.

Venice is the most magical city I’ve ever been to. This is my second time visiting this Italian gem, and I’m SO excited to be back here! You can almost taste the romance in air - everyone here is in love! I’m so grateful to explore this city with my boyfriend Daniel - he was definitely in love... with the pizza. I can’t blame him, we ate extraordinary pizza, authentic Italian deliciousness - in vegan form, hallelujah! This wonderful restaurant called “Bella & Brava” blew our minds. Eco-friendly packaging, FREE water (impossible to get tap water in Europe it seems, you always have to buy a plastic bottle for a million euros), several pre-designed vegan options (unheard of to have more than one) and hexagonal pizza boxes - revolutionary! If you’re in Venice, you absolutely have to go there. The Basilica = special cathedral (not to be confused with basilico = basil) was breathtaking. I had to wear a special modesty cover up for my knees, but the men didn’t have to... not sure why women’s knees are more offensive than men’s knees but hey, whatever floats your basilica (get it, because Venice is built on water...). Anyway I’m off to stuff my face with as much pasta as I can. I’ll let you know if I exceed my personal best x

Split: Croatia

I can't believe we nearly didn't come to Croatia! It's such a stunning country. These are a few photos we took the other day in Split, one of the cities there. We hiked in the SERIOUS heat up to the lookout point where you can see the whole town (despite the annoyingly placed trees - why would you plant them right in the middle of the view, kids?). You can't see here but I was honestly sweating like crazy. Plus, did you check out my super cool trainer/gym shoe look? Don't want to boast but I think I'm starting a trend because I've seen several people doing hikes in trainers now so... (but seriously, for some reason, everyone here is wearing ballet pumps and dinner shoes to hike up a hill! I'll always be about practicality over aesthetic. Or practically AND aesthetic. I've been known to wear a full set of polypropylene thermals under my cute jeans and shirt to University on the regular... Hannah Montana was right, you really can have the Best of Both Worlds.) Anyway, what I'm trying to say is Croatia is stunning, and I've loved every minute of it. Except for staying with the world's craziest backpackers, but that's a story for another day! x

Shipwreck Beach

I was so scared I would fall down the cliff - as you can see I'm clinging to the branches!

Daniel climbing to the top of the mast, scaring everyone who was watching!

You guys, today was crazy! We arrived in Zakynthos last night, an island on the west coast of Greece. It took six hours to reach it by bus and ferry from Athens, but it was completely worth it! We originally planned to go to Shipwreck Beach tomorrow, but we found out the weather would be better today so suddenly we decided to rent a car, drive across the island and get a boat out to the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. There's a giant shipwreck on the sand, which we climbed all over. Daniel climbed right to the top of the mast, which scared me a lot actually! He was absolutely fine, it was actually me who got hurt! All I did was step down off a platform and I cut my toe on a rusty piece of the ship. We got back on the boat and then drove home, completely forgetting about my toe. On the way we stopped off at the stunning lookout where you can see the whole beach and shipwreck below, but the road was so windy and we got lost and ended up mistakingly taking a back road detour that really only suited for four wheel drive and locals told us wasn't used since the nineties... but we miraculously managed in our Suziki Swift! Fingers crossed we don't get any car damage fines in the mail! Worth it for the view though, it was SO stunning. And terrifyingly high. But gotta do it for the Instagram, right? We cooked vegan souvlaki for dinner and then I suddenly remembered I should go to the doctors, because rust in a cut can cause tetanus. In the rush out the door I smashed two plates and we lost half of our dinner to the floor hahaha... bad luck today I guess! (Quite Greek of me to smash plates though, maybe it's a sign I'm Greek at heart?). I thought going to the doctors in a foreign country would be a nightmare, but it was actually super straight forward - I just got a tetanus shot and we made it out of there in time to get another souvlaki! We're going back to Athens tomorrow, and I guess we'll see what adventure it brings!
Until then... with love, adventure and antiseptic x

Paradise Beach

They don't call it Paradise Beach for nothing! Just imagine the music pumping Flo Rida in the club in the background (and of course that song is a banger, but this was the awful DJ I mentioned in my last post talking over the music the whole time so it was painful as!). Luckily it was redeemed by the fact we made some Italian friends on the beach to dance with, whose names I can't remember (did I even get them?). Dance is a universal language so it didn't even matter that they didn't speak any English and we don't speak any Italian even though we both took 6 months of Italian language classes in 2017, oops. Cah-poo-chee-noh! Una pasta, per favore! Su-pear-mer-carto! That's about the extent of it. We're off to Italy in 3 days so that should be put to good use. If you spot a lost looking couple with a cappuccino and a pastry in a supermarket, come say hi! We love making new friends, and we usually get their names, I promise. Now I'm off to sleep because its been a long day doing nothing on the beach, haha! x

On our first day in Mykonos we found this abandoned bus on the side of the road, which was our playground for the afternoon! Is this not the coolest bus you've ever seen? I definitely wasn't expecting a broken bus to be one of the highlights of Mykonos, but they should put it on Trip Advisor! Afterwards we went to Paradise Beach Club, which was amazing - it's only my second ever beach club but I think I'm really getting a taste for beach parties - dancing and sun and food AND swimming? Sign me up haha! There was this one DJ that was AWFUL though - nothing like the singing into the microphone over the music the whole night to ruin paradise! At one point I just had to run to the ocean and go swimming in the dark to get away from it! (It wasn't deep or dangerous!). Just thinking about it makes me want earplugs. Oh wait, no, that's the guy in the bunk next to me snoring. I better get some zZZ too - peace out x

Take Me To Church

There are so many churches in Santorini, there's no way you could visit them all in four days. There are literally hundreds! I think we made a pretty thorough visit to this one though! I was partly crawling cross the building because of the height, and partly because I didn't want to be seen in case we weren't supposed to be there... Gotta risk it for the shot, right? I think some of these shots are the first time I took my sunglasses off outside - with everything painted white, the glare is super intense. Even the tree trunks are painted white here, to keep the insects off! We spent the day exploring the island and eating gelati... then had a big nap because the heat just makes me so sleepy! And now we're going back for round two of my new favourite vegan Neopolitan dish... so excited! x

Sunset Paradise

The pictures can't capture just how impossibly beautiful the sunset over Oia is. It's our last day here in Santorini, and I'll actually be super sad to leave my dream holiday. We've watched sunsets, eaten far too many gyros and authentic Greek (vegan!) food, rented a car to drive the whole way around the island, visited every beach we could, took a boat out to the hot springs and volcano, and partied with some girls who found out they passed their final medical exams right in front of us (I've never heard a louder shriek with delight!). So our days in Santorini are nearly over, but we still have a little time left - I'm off to try every flavour of gelati in town and soak up the views before we head to our next destination... Mykanos! Catch you later x
