When I was a kid, we had a family friend who was an air traffic controller, and she made $150,000 a year. It seemed like a very impressive job, so I assumed that was the most you could make. When I surpassed that in 2022, it broke my brain a little bit. What else could be possible? Could I make a million dollars in a year?

I set that goal to make impossible things feel normal.

A million dollars in any 12 month period.

Sometimes people ask me why I’m so ambitious. Why do I need a million dollars? Why not just be happy with what I already have? Well, because women today are some of the first women in history to have the chance to pursue our dreams. We’re standing on the shoulders of women who fought for our right to vote, to have bank accounts, to own property, and to have reproductive rights. We can honour them by using those rights, and opening more doors for the next generation of women. Closing the gender wealth gap is one of those doors.

So I’ll never, ever apologise for being ambitious.

I owe it to my grandmother.
